I soldered wires to the three pins on the USB plug first and then soldered the 3 different sets of wires to the leads. Solder the bare wires together. The white wires are not used. I've never had the computer try to install a new driver in the many times I've disconnected the scanner and reconnected it, (except on the original install).The SDS100 does everything a scanner can do. Ironically in early versions of Sentinel you could set the "Keypad Lock" option to On for the SDS100 and the keypad would be actually be locked after writing to the scanner so *part* of the keyboard ...3. You are going to need an amplified speaker. The only jack on the SDS100 is the headphone jack which has very limited power so you don't blow your eardrums out. The marine case is touted as being waterproof/resistant so Uniden kept the moisture resistant feature and advertised it as a plus for the SDS100. But the marine portables don’t use SDR.
