You have to get one to follow you into the room where you see the ghosts and kill one on top of the round thing for it to open that allows access to the stairs. This, or knock one out and drag them in there and kill them. As I said, watch the ghosts when you go in there, they show you this exact thing. #5.

The Dregs was meant to be run around level 17-20 so you shouldn't struggle too much. Iâm not sure if the environmental acid will hurt your thrall, but Relic Hunters should be fine regardless. Theyâve got really good health. The acid shouldn't kill your thrall - it was nerfed to make that very unlikely.
